Meet Catherine

Catherine Rye is an experienced Allied Health Professional and Paediatric Physiotherapist. She has 20 years of experience in the NHS working in clinical, leadership, research and education roles across multiple settings, including acute hospitals, specialist centres, child development centres, community and schools.

She worked as a Practice Educator for Allied Health and Head of Education at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Within this role she developed education and Preceptorship programmes for band 5-8. She was chair of the National Preceptorship community of practice and and co-chair of the North Central London Preceptorship group.

Catherine has written qualitative and quantitative research abstracts showing the impact of Band 6 Preceptorship programmes, that have been presented at national conferences. The publications can be found in the British Medical Journal.

She worked on the design and implementation of the National Preceptorship Quality Mark for Nursing, Midwifery and AHPs. She represented the London region and was part of the national team. This quality mark is due to launch in 2026 and Catherine still supports organisations with their preceptorship programme and submissions through the consultancy section of Beyond Preceptorship.

She completed her MSc in Advancing Professional Practice (Paediatrics) from Sheffield Hallam University in 2017, and this sparked her passion for research. She has worked as a Specialist Research Physiotherapist for neuromuscular clinical trials at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), which included collaborating with other researchers and presenting at international conferences.

Beyond Preceptorship was grown out of a passion to provide the highest level of education, support and excellence for healthcare staff throughout the different stages of their careers.

Helping our healthcare workforce grow and reach their full potential will always be the main focus of these courses.

Catherine worked in the NHS for 20 years, before deciding to make a change to provide more flexibility to work around her children and family.
